Past works mostly written back in high school...Chronological order commencing from the earliest works...

CRUSH
I stare at you
Out of the window
Hoping to catch your eye
See you smile
But you didn't even
Turn your head
And look my way.
I run down the halls
Hoping to find you...
To catch a glimpse of you...
To hear your voice.
Even just one word
Would satisfy me
But you never appear.
I'm going crazy
Head over heels for you.
My heart throbs fast
When I think about you.
I can hear my pulse beating
Inside my head
When I see you...
How can I get you outta my mind?
You inhibit
Every moment,
Every minute,
Every hour.
I've fallen for you...
I've got a crush on you.

SOMETIMES
Sometimes I think
Of what it would be like
To be in a different place,
And in a different time.
Sometimes I think
What it would be like
Living in an unfamiliar place,
Not knowing anyone.
But sometimes never comes
Cuz' I like it hereI
n this place
Anyway.

DREAM
I had a dream last night.
I was walking down
The empty hallways
Seeing nothing...
Hearing nothing.
There was no one around,
No sounds of laughter.
Then I remembered...
That school had gone and passed.
I was not supposed to be here
In this old, familiar place.
And so,
I turned around...and walked away.

L O V E
Love is blind...
So I do not see.
Love is deaf...
So I do not hear.
Love is patient...So I wait.
Love is fragile...
It will break.
Like a broken vase
Shattered into a million pieces.
Like sand crumbling...
Trickling out of your hand,
Never to be repaired.

F A C A D E
See
The calm facade
Impassive, undisturbed, serene.
But beneath the surface
In the deepest, darkest hole
A monster lies
Chaotic, in turmoil
Full of pent-up emotions
Feelings unexpressed.
Anger,
Frustration,
Grief
Confusion.
Bubbling inside,
Driving to insanity,
Till one day,
Burst
Once hidden, suddenly
Rise to the surface
Destroying,
Devastating,
Eliminating,
Eradicating,
Fueled by madness
Unable to stop.
Until all is released.
The monster returns
To his fathomless hole,
A surface of quicksilver calm -
Just a facade.

MAYBE TOMORROW
Everyday
I walk past a man
Destitute, homeless, jobless
Slumped weary
On the footpath
Crumpled box by his feet.
Eyes on ground
Looking up occassionally,
"Sir, spare a dollar."
"Ma'am I've no food."
"Miss I got no home."
Hundreds of people
Strolling past him
Yet everyday
Box is empty.
None are willing to give.
Walking past
A ningling feeling
Small voice whispers
Give him a dollar
Maybe two.
Perhaps ten
Or even fifty?
But overruled by
Selfish feeling.
Morals battle
Facts speak
Until too late.
Feeling pity,
But nothing happens.
Tomorrow again
Strolling past him.
Maybe tomorrow!
But maybe
Not me.

W A I T I N G
Sitting down
Beside the phone
Fingers drumming
Thoughts running
Minutes pass
Turning into hours.
'Why?'
'Why hasn't it rung?'
Annoyance leading
To Frustration
To Anger
Venting out on pillow.
Then back to drumming
Beside the phone
Sitting down
Waiting.

EPITOME OF BEAUTY
The epitome of beauty
Is perfection.
Or so they say.
In ancient times
Wondered at the moon
A flawless orb
Smooth, undented,
Shining bright.
But in the future
New knowledge
No longer flawlss
But hole-ridden.
A dew-sprinkled rose
Perfect shape,
Brightly coloured,
Soft to touch.
But prick of thorn,
Spot of blood,
No longer perfect
Or delicate to touch.
Perfection
The epitome of beauty?
Merely concealment
Of a blemish,
A fault,
A flaw.

ONE WINTER NIGHT
Gilainne Sytingco © August 6, 2003
A winter breeze
A blue-black sky.
A frosty breath
Escapes to fly.
A winter dream
A chilly night.
A falling star,
Lights up the night.
A pallid moon
A fading light.
A gentle hug
To say Goodnight.
Two cold hands
Two warm hearts.
A soft winter's kiss
To end the perfect night.
